Our family has lived on this land since our Māori ancestors settled Aotearoa. We are proudly kaitiaki of the land and ocean. The property was completely virgin bush clad until the late nineteenth century, when our grandfather following the elder statesman’s directive, began felling trees to sell and fund a farming enterprise. 

Since that time the property has housed and sustained four generations of the family. Matai Whetū is a contemporary villa in a herbaceous hillside garden and surrounded by second growth native bush. It overlooks Kowharewa Bay, part of the tiny Tutukaka Harbour.
